Women's Night In

Last friday the Trek Bicycle Store of Saint Louis hosted Women's Night In. We had live music, good food, wine, and expert speakers. We welcomed Team Revolution and the Trek WSD truck into town and had a blast of a time. Check out some of the photos from the night.

Thank you to all who showed up.

A cellist amongst the bikes. The music lasted half an hour.

Listening intently to one of our speakers.

A good number of women showed up. Tally reached 44 at one point. Thanks again.

Go By Bike

The Trek Bicycle Stores, in conjunction with Trek Corporation, is giving away two free 7.2fx bicycles. Help us promote a healthier earth while you enjoy a healthier lifestyle. There are some interesting facts on the use of cars for trips under two miles. The emission controls on cars do not work for the first few minutes of running, which is often the amount of time it takes to go two miles. 50% of car trips in the Unites States are under two miles.

We encourage you to enter in a chance to win these bikes and our "Go by Bike Challenge" by March 24th. To enter click here and fill out the form. Tell us who you are, what your barriers are to riding a bike for short trips, and what trips you make in your car under two miles.

We also have a promotion for a one-hundred dollar shopping spree at the store. Click here for the coupon and rules.

The Trek Bicycle Store of Saint Louis would like to welcome the Oakley line of products to our family. Come on in and check out the current stock of performance sunglasses or come in and order a special pair for yourself.

Oakley is created for world class athletes. This alone should speak for their quality. Innovation after innovation has made Oakley one of the most recognizable names in the sunglass game. Many cyclists chose Oakley. From employees at The Trek Bicycle Store of Saint Louis all the way to the Pro Peloton.

Lance Armstrong - Seven times Tour de France winner, all in Oakley

George Hincapie - The only guy there for all of them, in Oakley.

Christophe Moreau - This year's french national champion, also wearing Oakley.

Dealing with 40 - Commuting to work

Highway 40 is closed for reconstruction:
What kind of bike should I ride to work?

Many questions, with many answers; and we are going to give answers to commuting questions over the next few weeks in order to get riders ready for the commute to avoid Highway 40 and get on their bikes.

This week we feature bikes that are good solutions to commute. Whether you are looking for an entry level way to get to work, or another bike to avoid riding your carbon road bike into the ground - there is something for everyone.

To start, we have geared commuter bikes. The horses of the modern road. Ease up the hills, and fly on the flats. Whatever your route is like, these bikes will get you to work on time.

Trek 520. Steel frame, bar end shifters, and high spoke count wheels make this bike a heavy duty commuter bike.

Trek Soho - Rubberized sides of top tube, makes leaning this bike against a pole easy on the paint, and disc brakes are an absolute must for rainy and muddy conditions.

If you are looking for something a little less heavy duty, check out a fixed gear bike. These are the classic bike messenger bikes, easy to weave in and out of traffic with and very manageable in rough and slippery conditions.

Trek T1 - Trek's Version of the super light Track Bike

Lemond Fillmore - The Steel frame and simple components make it very light and manageable.

Trek Soho S - Single Speed flat bar with a flip flop hub if you like the fixed gear idea.

Gary Fisher Triton - Steel Frame, bullhorn bars and high spoke count will make this a very nice commute.

I-64/40: Try Commuting on Your Bike

This year will be a mess in Saint Louis. I-64/40 will be closed in many various locations through the entire county. Many of the highways in Saint Louis will be a jam - even though they are expanding I-44 and I-70 to five lanes. Our role in this situation is a good solution - commute to work. Your bike may end up being faster than driving your car.

The I-64/40 Situation

We at the Trek Store have some favorite routes to different locations from all different areas in the county. Check out our Routes and try commuting to work this year.

West County to Clayton
West County to Downtown
West County to Westport

North County to Clayton
North County to Downtown
North County to Westport

South County to Clayton
South County to Downtown
South County to Westport

Trek also has a program trying to get more people on bikes for commuting purposes and general health topics in america. Check out One World: Two Wheels and see what a difference a bike can make.

Maintenance classes at Trek Saint Louis

December is coming to a close and the new year is just around the bend. To many people this means a time to start eating healthier and exercising; to cyclists it means a time to ready our bodies and bikes for the new season. If we get ready now, when the first beautiful day comes around in the spring we can be ready to ride.

Here at the Trek Bicycle Store in Saint Louis we want to help you get ready for the new season. We are offering two types of classes to get you geared up and ready to go, spinning and maintenance.

We have a spinning class offered every Wednesday night at 8:00 PM which has been going on for a couple of weeks now, but you are welcome to join at any time. Each week brings a new session. All you need is your bike and your trainer and $7 to join in the fun.

If you don't need to get your body ready for the new season, but your bike needs a little work, we are also going to offer a maintenance class every Thursday night starting on January 10th. These classes will be different every week. Each will cost $10, or you can purchase entry to the entire series for $50.

The schedule looks like this:
Jan. 10 - Pre-Ride Bike Check
Jan. 17 - Cleaning/Lubing your Bike
Jan. 24 - Rim Brake Class
Jan. 31 - Derailleur Class
Feb. 7 - Disc Brake Class
Feb. 14 - Wheel True Class

These classes will be held at the shop from 6:30 to 7:30 with the last half hour for question and answer time with Gary, and help purchasing any tools or supplies before we close.

Trek The Halls with Bikes a Plenty

The holidays are here and with them come great deals. Every Bicycle purchase is a big decision, and with that big decision comes big expense. Here at the Trek Bicycle Store in Saint Louis we know that, and we like to accommodate as well. From now until Christmas, we have our Red Bow Sale. This sale puts tons of accessories at a less expensive price, so your whole purchase can be a little less stressful on your pocketbook.

We also have a financing option available to you. If you are like many of us, you like to buy nice things during the holidays for your loved ones. Again, we like to accommodate: we offer financing to all (subject to approval). You can apply online, or feel free to come into the store and apply on the spot. We can get you approved and ready to roll out the door with your new bike on the same day.

The Trek Bicycle Store in Saint Louis would also like to remind you of a couple of things. Highway 40 - the ever present Saint Louis thoroughfare will be shut down in the coming year. There isn't a great public transit option and gas prices are very high. Why not buy a bicycle to get from place to place. We have baskets and racks to adorn your bike with. We all also have great ideas of how to use your bike with ease. Whether that is a safe route to work, or for you children to school, or even a quick way to a bus stop or Metro Link station. Your investment in a bike, and dedication to a healthier living style could save you thousands of dollars per year in car repairs and gasoline. We continue to work with Trek and their One World: Two Wheels Program. Talk to a sales rep today to find out how to be more Eco-friendly and save yourself a lot of money in the long run.

And if you already have a bike, and need to have it overhauled - Now is the time. We have a special on our complete bike overhaul from now until the end of February. Get your entire bike taken apart and rebuilt with new grease in all of the pivots and bearings for $75 off of the regular $200 price. Make sure to bring in the coupon for the discount.

Free Maintenence Class

Our mechanic Gary will be giving a clinic tomorrow, Saturday December 1st at 9:30 AM. We host a flat tire clinic the 1st saturday of each month. He will start with how to take the wheel off, then how to take the tire/tube off of the wheel, then how to get both back on the bike. If you want to you can bring your entire bike, or just grab the front wheel and come ready to learn. If you have any questions along a more complex line, Gary is always more than willing to explain. These questions will have to wait until after the flat tire clinic is through.

The clininc will start right at 9:30, so come early - and of course, feel free to stay late. Our Red Bow Sale starts on the 1st as well, so stick around and browse for great gifts or stocking stuffers. The clinic usually lasts about one hour, so our store will be open for business when you are done with your mechanical questions.

Its That Time of Year --

The weather is cold, rainy, and windy. It is starting to get dark earlier and earlier. These two things make it difficult to ride your bike, unless you want to wake up at 6am to ride...

If you are like most people then you know what this time of year means -- Trainers Trainers Trainers... Get out your Carmichael Training Systems DVD and your trusty trainer and put in your hours of trainer fun to be fit for next spring.

Plus during race season, you can use it to warm up - like Lance - instead of trying to sneak some laps on the course.

So come check out our collection of trainers and training DVDs today.
